Cookie Policy

What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device (computer, phone, or tablet) when you visit. They are widely used to make websites work, remember preferences, and provide information to website owners. Similar technologies include local storage, which stores data in your browser on the same principle.
How DecibelMeter Uses Cookies
DecibelMeter does not currently set cookies for tracking, analytics, or advertising. Instead, the website uses your browser's local storage to remember a small amount of data that is necessary for the tool to work well:
- Your chosen theme (light or dark)
- Your selected language
- Measurement sessions you save in the Noise Journal
This data never leaves your device. You can clear it at any time through your browser's storage or history settings. Clearing it simply resets these preferences; the sound meter itself still works.
Analytics and Advertising Cookies
The website uses Google Analytics, which places first-party cookies (such as _ga and _gid) to collect aggregated information about how visitors use the site. These cookies help us understand which pages are useful and how the site is used, so we can improve it. Google Analytics data is processed in aggregate and is not used to identify individual visitors. You can learn about Google's cookie practices at policies.google.com/technologies/cookies and opt out of Google Analytics with the browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
The website does not currently display advertising, so no advertising cookies are placed today.
If the website begins showing advertising through a service such as Google AdSense, advertising partners — including Google — may place cookies on your device to serve ads based on your visits to this website and other websites, to measure ad performance, and to limit how often you see an ad. Some partners may use cookies to build a profile of your interests and show more relevant ads across the web.
We will update this Cookie Policy before any such advertising service is introduced.
Third-Party Cookies
Third-party services that may be integrated in the future (such as advertising networks) may set their own cookies. These cookies are subject to the privacy policies of those third parties, not this Cookie Policy. We do not control the cookies set by third parties.
Cookie Durations
For cookies we set ourselves in the future, durations will be stated at the time they are introduced. Cookies set by third-party advertising partners have durations determined by those partners, which can range from a single session to several months. For current information, consult the partner's own documentation (for example, Google's advertising cookies documentation).
How to Control Cookies
You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you block all cookies, block third-party cookies, or delete cookies when you close the browser. Help pages for common browsers:
- Chrome: chrome://settings/cookies
- Firefox: Firefox Settings > Privacy & Security
- Edge: edge://settings/cookies
- Safari: Safari > Preferences > Privacy
For advertising personalization, you can also use the opt-out tools at aboutads.info and youradchoices.com, and Google's Ads Settings (adssettings.google.com).
Effect of Disabling Cookies and Storage
If you block cookies or clear local storage, DecibelMeter will continue to work, but your theme, language, and saved measurement sessions will not be remembered between visits. If advertising is introduced in the future, disabling advertising cookies will not remove ads, but the ads you see may be less relevant to you.
Updates and Contact
We may update this Cookie Policy as the website's features or third-party services change. Any changes will be reflected here with an updated date at the top of the page. If you have questions about cookies or local storage on this website, please contact us.
